Pondering a veteran basic in Minnesota?

January 24th, 2012
Does we take a great inordinate leap involving faith recently when we discussed Christian Ponder’s apparently inevitable status as the Minnesota Vikings’ 2011 starting quarterback?

Lockout or not, We have thought the Vikings might do everything they could to acquire Ponder on the field quickly. Even if he did not earn the Week 1 job, it seems hard to imagine the Vikings could entice a veteran starter in order to meet the shortest of short-term jobs.

Regardless, what they are called of current Buenos aires Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb and Denver Broncos starter Kyle Orton continue to be sailed in the national mass media. Here are two recent examples:

ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter: : For starters, McNabb isn’t any cinch to will be found in Minnesota. The Vikings can explore a buy and sell for him, but it’s far from a certainty that they would use that direction. Mn still could choose to pursue another seasoned quarterback, maybe a Kyle Orton. But they also invested a whole lot in Christian Think. Minnesota expects your pet to be its long-term reply. So it’s going to take the right type of experienced quarterback to bring in — engineered to be good enough to help this team now, however understanding enough to know he might not have a good deal of future with the staff.

McNabbNFL.com’s Jason La Canfora: We have heard all the mumbling about Ponder being the starter regarding Week 1, but I don’t buy it. … And also this is a team along with playoff hopes, trying to terrain a new stadium and take advantage of some aging key players? Sure, I don’t buy Think about doing anything but keeping a clipboard. I don’t attention if the Vikings can’t property Donovan McNabb until 24 hours prior to regular season starts … I’d still say he gets the start.

Stranger things have occurred, but the days of a new highly-drafted quarterback spending his rookie season around the sideline are all but over. The Vikings probably need a veteran backup quarterback, but if and when they spend time pursuing and also preparing a potential beginner with Ponder’s inevitable ascension nearby? I’m not sure about that.
